The parts of the body evaluated under endoscopy are the esophagus, stomach and sections of the intestines.

The services provided by Balaji Hospital’s expert surgeons for endoscopy are-

  • Capsule endoscopy is used for capturing the images of the digestive tract such as the small intestine which are difficult to capture through other endoscopic procedures. The patient is asked to swallow a capsule with a tiny camera within, which captures images as it moves within the digestive tract. It is a minimally invasive procedure used to detect diseases in the small intestine such as gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, Crohn’s disease and peptic ulcer.
  • Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is the most commonly performed endoscopy procedure, evaluating internally from the mouth to the beginning of the small intestine. It consists of an optic fiber system with a chip camera at the tip, moving from the upper part of the gastro tract to the duodenum. It is also a minimally invasive procedure as there is no incision made for the equipment’s entry. The uses that upper endoscopy come of are diagnosis, surveillance, confirmation of the diagnosis and treatment. It is commonly used for treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, heartburn and chronic acid reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, persistent nausea, dysphagia and inflammatory bowel diseases.
  • Bronchoscopy is used for detecting any disturbances or infections in the lung’s airway path, such as the larynx, trachea, bronchi and the lower airways. Bronchoscopy is used for the detection of airways problems as posed by bleeding, chronic cough, lung cancer, lymph nodes, narrowed airways, foreign objects and extra growth internally. We perform both flexible and rigid bronchoscopy to clear the airway path, detect and treat harmful diseases.
  • Sigmoidoscopy is used to examine the rectum and the lower colon. The long, thin and flexibly lighted tube with a camera is inserted anally. The procedure is used for evaluation of colon cancer, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding and other intestinal problems.
